BENSALEM TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT Transportation Coordinator Summary of Position: The Transportation Coordinator reports to the Supervisor of Operations and Transportation and is responsible for schedule preparation, training, record-keeping, and related duties. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Prepare operating schedules for daily transportation of students to and from public/non-public schools and distribute approved schedules. 2. Regularly monitor load and route conditions and make appropriate schedule changes. 3. Coordinate with the Intermediate Unit and district special education department and student services departments for transportation of exceptional students, as needed. 4. Prepare original drafts of all state reports relating to pupil transportation. 5. Maintain records concerning vehicle maintenance, vehicle performance, mileage, gas consumption, parts inventory, overtime, employee attendance, employee certification and payroll. 6. Report all mechanical breakdowns, schedule interruptions, accidents, and vandalism to the Supervisor of Operations & Transportation. 7. Overall responsibility for training programs as required by Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for driver certification and re-certification. 8. Investigation of accidents and the preparation of appropriate reports. 9. Assist the Supervisor of Operations and Transportation with the preparation of equipment specifications and other research. 10. Liaison with administrators from other school districts, non-public and special schools. 11. Receive student discipline complaints from drivers and forward to building principals for action. 12. Assist in resolving complaints and problems involving students, drivers, and the public. 13. Hear first level grievances relating to the Transportation Department. 14. Assist in preparation of the transportation budget. 15. Act as district representative for purchase of diesel fuel, gasoline and propane in the Bucks County Intermediate Unit Joint Purchasing Authority. 16. Overall responsibility for coordinating security of the bus depot. 17. Be available to drive a bus during an emergency. 18. Consult with the Supervisor of Operations and Transportation to maintain adequate staffing levels. 19. Assist the Supervisor of Operations and Transportation in evaluating weather conditions to recommend delaying openings, early dismissals, or school closings. 20. Directly supervise Head Mechanic, Office Staff, Drivers and Bus Aides in accordance with respective employment agreements. 21. Perform other related duties as directed by the Supervisor of Operations and Transportation. Minimum Qualifications 1. Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a school bus driver. 2. Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a position with responsibility for scheduling and fleet maintenance with a motor fleet operation. 3. Must have, or be willing to obtain, CDL license and certification by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation as a school bus driver. 4. Must have good communication skills, both verbal and written. 5. Must maintain a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license at all times. Essential Functions: 1.
